the situation

When America is able to focus collectively on a particular goal, there is nothing that we cannot achieve no matter how extraordinary. Since our founding, we have done the impossible time and time again. We have shown the world how to accomplish the unimaginable from the moment that our improbable revolution created a unique nation based on freedom, equality and democracy.

Our limitless potential to solve world problems, lead technological advancements, and reach beyond the conceivable, has not diminished over time. But achieving this potential requires shared vision and cooperation. United, we put a man on the moon. Divided, we can’t even pass a budget on time.

Here's what we're doing about it

-GET MORE INVOLVED IN PRIMARY ELECTIONS: A significant driver of polarization, and a major restraint on the ability of sitting representatives to exercise their moral judgement, is fear of a small but active faction of extremists in both parties that could impact the next primary. These factions have hijacked both parties and have eroded commonsense, sanity and civility. We need more moderate voices engaged in primary elections to ensure that a small group with extreme positions cannot oust a good representative or intimidate them during their time in office.

-CREATING THE NEXT GREATEST GENERATION THROUGH PUBLIC SERVICE: It is essential that every citizen feel connected to the larger national community and feel a sense of responsibility for its condition. The character of America is merely a reflection of the character of its citizens. We believe that service to community, to country, and to one another, is critical to forming a new American culture premised on hard work, compassion, unity, and sacrifice. This service can come in many forms and we urge the public and private sectors to do more to promote this vision for American society.

-BELIEVE THAT NATIONAL UNITY IS POSSIBLE: While serving our country in the military, the founders of the Alliance witnessed how differences become irrelevant when people understand the necessity of unity. In the military, there are only two types of people- those who are contributing to the mission and those who are not. American society is no different. There are good, hard-working, patriotic people in every community who are contributing to the mission of making our country a better place. To alienate or dismiss any of these people because of their political affiliation, race, gender, religion, or sexual orientation is a tremendous mistake and a disservice to our nation.

-EMBRACE THE NEW DEFINITION OF AMERICAN EXCEPTIONALISM: In this century, America is not the only major player in the world and we do not wish to proclaim superiority to the peoples of other nations. But we are the only nation that can guide the world through the perilous path that it is currently on. Our global influence is unmatched, our economic and military power unrivaled, and our potential is limitless. The world needs us. The world needs America to overcome its internal squabbles and to lead as it has done in the past. This is the 21st century definition of American exceptionalism.

-THINK BEYOND PARTY LOYALTY: Democracy is not about allegiance to a political party. Neither party has a platform that is infallible. In fact, if you look through your party’s positions on each issue and you think critically and independently, we guarantee that you will find some policy position that you disagree with. That is inevitable if you think for yourself. So, what does that mean? Should you switch parties? Not necessarily. But you should begin aligning yourself with particular issues rather than particular candidates or parties. When it comes to the issues, we have much more in common then we have in divisions.

-UNDERSTAND THAT DEMOCRACY DEPENDS ON AN INFORMED ELECTORATE: This organization is dedicated to informing Americans on the most critical issues so that we can have productive conversations and debates, we can restore civility and sanity to our political discourse, we can bring Americans together around the most important policies, and we can stop enabling the endless bickering and fruitless partisanship of our politicians who still get paid whether they accomplish anything or not. We are done waiting for a miracle politician to come along and save us. It is time for us to direct policy decisions at the local, state and federal level.

-BELIEVE IN AMERICA: The future of this nation is in your hands. The strength of this nation has and always will reside within its citizens. We need new voices, new initiatives and a new generation of empowered citizens who will look beyond partisan divisions and direct us towards a greater future than we can currently imagine. Believe in yourself. Believe in your fellow citizens. Believe in America.

GET MORE INVOLVED IN PRIMARY ELECTIONS:

A significant driver of polarization, and a major restraint on the ability of sitting representatives to exercise their moral judgement, is fear of a small but active faction of extremists in both parties that could impact the next primary. These factions have hijacked both parties and have eroded commonsense, sanity and civility. We need more moderate voices engaged in primary elections to ensure that a small group with extreme positions cannot oust a good representative or intimidate them during their time in office.

Follow your local primaries closely, engage with the representatives running for office, evaluate their policy positions (you can use the policies listed throughout this website as a guide), and organize other moderate voters to ensure that your voice is heard louder than the misguided extremists in your party. Our government should not be at the mercy of far-right or far-left groups simply because they are more involved in the primary process. Our country needs moderation, compromise and unity. This means that we need moderate voters to turn out in full force for primary elections.

CREATING THE NEXT GREATEST GENERATION THROUGH PUBLIC SERVICE:

It is essential that every citizen feel connected to the larger national community and feel a sense of responsibility for its condition.

The public sector should dedicate more resources to opportunities for service in programs such as Americorps, the Peace Corps, and other similar programs. Every year these programs have far more applicants than they have slots available. Every citizen who wants to take a year to serve others should have the opportunity to do so. Additionally, there is much that the private sector can do as well. This could include greater emphasis on public service focused sabbatical opportunities or increasing the companies use of volunteer programs and charitable events.

BELIEVE THAT NATIONAL UNITY IS POSSIBLE:

It is with great pride and fondness that we (the founders of the Alliance) recollect the time that we’ve spent serving our country in the United States military. That experience profoundly changed us. The key aspect of our military experience that we want to share with you is the uncompromising unity that is required in such a setting. We have served alongside a diverse group of patriotic Americans, willing to give their lives for their country. We have had the honor of serving alongside Americans of Christian, Jewish and Muslim faith. We served alongside Americans of every race and ethnic background. We served alongside the strongest men and women that our nation has to offer. There were no divisions between us.

In the military, there are only two types of people- those who are contributing to the mission and those who are not. American society is no different. There are good, hard-working, patriotic people in every community who are contributing to the mission of making our country a better place. To alienate or dismiss any of these people because of their political affiliation, race, gender, religion, or sexual orientation is a tremendous mistake and a disservice to our entire country. We need every one of these citizens working together so that we can achieve our full potential as a nation. There is no segment of our society that is not essential. There is not one demographic group that has not answered the call when our country needed them. We stand today, the greatest nation on Earth, because of the efforts of all our people. We need to not only tolerate one another, we must trust one another, help one another and defend one another.

We, the founders of the Alliance, are immensely proud to be Americans. This is a truly unique nation. Our people have come from every corner of the globe, seeking freedom and equality. These values are what unite us. All other perceived differences are secondary.

EMBRACE THE NEW DEFINITION OF AMERICAN EXCEPTIONALISM:

In this century, America is not the only major player in the world and we do not wish to proclaim superiority to the peoples of other nations. But we are the only nation that can guide the world through the perilous path that it is currently on. Our global influence is unmatched, our economic and military power unrivaled, and our potential is limitless. The world needs us. This is the 21st century definition of American exceptionalism.

It is impossible to ignore our special place in the community of nations. Even attempting to see America as anything other than essential to global stability is an exercise in futility and foolishness. We don’t need to send our military to fight battles on every continent, but we do need to take charge on matters ranging from targeting terrorist financing, preventing the proliferation of nuclear weapons, increasing human rights and labor standards in trade agreements, preventing the spread of dangerous and communicable diseases, fighting climate change, and always pressing for the adoption of democratic reforms in authoritarian regimes. Only America can lead this fight.

The world still looks to us for leadership and though we would like a reprieve from this tremendous responsibility, we must either meet our destiny with courage and resolve or backslide into mediocrity. The future will be what America makes of it. We can squander everything that our ancestors fought for if we choose to pursue ignorant partisanship and superficial divisions, or we can make this century into the greatest period in American history. The world waits anxiously for our decision.

THINK BEYOND PARTY LOYALTY:

This organization lays the blame for our current dysfunction on unnecessary and misguided divisions which prevent our citizens from working in unity toward a new century of American innovation, economic growth, entrepreneurship and global leadership. When we look just below the surface of the scripted party squabbling, we find that the American people have similar views on a host of important policies. This fact became apparent during the 2016 election as identical policies appeared on both party platforms and were championed by candidates on both sides of the aisle. As we were being told that the country was more divided than ever before, both parties spoke of similar proposals for Wall Street reform (a 21st century Glass-Steagall Act), different trade policies to include scrapping the TPP trade agreement, cutting the carried interest tax loophole, making a one trillion-dollar investment in infrastructure, and revitalizing America’s manufacturing sector. We must understand that the parties may be divided, but the American people are often in agreement on many issues. Most of the critical issues that face our nation have clear, actionable and bipartisan solutions which can form the blueprint for a new national movement of empowered citizens willing to place country before party.

Democracy is not about allegiance to a political party.

The real issues often have no political party. Therefore, this organization will not look to one party to enact them. We will demand the advancement of our policies in every city council, every state legislature, every Congressional office and under every President. We will unify, inform and empower the American people to fight for this agenda. This increased citizen participation will bring with it a liberation from feelings of fear, helplessness, suspicion, and victimization. The new sentiment to permeate the American electorate will be brotherhood, control, power, hope, and optimism. This is the compulsory attitude of empowered men and women.

Remember, Americans are not meant to be despondent. We are an active, rebellious and creative people. When directed toward an attainable goal, these qualities have set us apart as the most proactive and effective nation on Earth. Our people crave challenge and purpose. This is in our very nature and national character. Now is the time to think beyond partisan gridlock and forge a new movement of unified Americans who will redeem our nation, reclaim decision making authority by presenting our representatives with a clear and actionable agenda of specific policy solutions, and restore the greatness of this nation for years to come. This is the challenge of our generation.

UNDERSTAND THAT DEMOCRACY DEPENDS ON AN INFORMED ELECTORATE:

Democracy is the belief that citizens are educated and capable enough that they need not be ruled. They can manage the offices of government and promote the will of the people. They can govern themselves as individuals and they can govern themselves as a nation. This is the philosophy of America. It is a philosophy which elevates each individual to equal stature through thought and action. Allegiance to a candidate, political party or leader is contrary to everything that democracy stands for. We pledge allegiance to our flag, to our constitution and to our fellow citizens. Not our leaders. Our representatives must always be questioned, criticized and held accountable. When we give our loyalty to a party or a politician, we create a political monopoly in which that party or politician has no desire to deliver the things that we need because we have eliminated their competition. They know that we will vote for them no matter what because we have foolishly given them our loyalty. Our loyalty must be to our country and to the policies that will advance our economic, technological and financial security. Not to any individual or party.

Being informed on the issues gives us the most powerful weapon of any society and that is the ability to question our leaders. This is what makes a democratic people impossible to subjugate. It is not our weapons, but informed dissent that safeguards our way of life.

This organization is dedicated to informing Americans on the most critical issues so that we can have productive conversations and debates, we can restore civility and sanity to our political discourse, we can bring Americans together around the most important policies, and we can stop enabling the endless bickering and fruitless partisanship of our politicians who still get paid whether they accomplish anything or not. We are done waiting for a miracle politician to come along and save us. When we inform, unify and mobilize the American people, then we will bring about the changes that we want rather than wait for those changes to be implemented after every election cycle.

BELIEVE IN AMERICA:

Despite all of the problems that we currently face, there is something miraculous about this country. America and its citizens continue to possess a strong moral compass which invariably directs us towards what is right and just. It is the same compass which guides the bold and adventurous from every corner of the globe to join us in the land of the free. The American people are a brave, charitable, adventurous and resolute people. That is why we- the people- must become more engaged in the political process. Our blind loyalty to political parties and our over-reliance on charismatic politicians have undermined the founding principles of our nation. Only an active and informed citizenry can protect and advance our country’s interests.

The future of this nation is in your hands. The strength of this nation has and always will reside within its citizens. We need new voices, new initiatives and a new generation of empowered citizens who will look beyond partisan divisions and direct us towards a greater future than we can currently imagine. Believe in yourself. Believe in your fellow citizens. Believe in America.
